The John Nugent Scholarships
John Nugent, MBE, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Stamford Group Limited until his death in 2010, was passionate about education and believed fervently in the need for young people to obtain the best possible education.
He established this scholarship scheme 15 years ago, which provides financial assistance to encourage students to fulfil their potential through a University course. In honour of his contributions, these Scholarships have now fittingly been named after him. 2011 marked the first Year of the John Nugent Scholarships. The Scholarships can each be worth up to £12,000.
To be eligible, you must:
- be resident in the Tameside area
- be currently receiving a full-time education in a Tameside school or college
- be confirmed as a suitable candidate for university entrance by your school/college principal.
- intend to apply to a recognised university for a degree-standard course with the aim of pursuing a career in industry
Application is very straightforward. If you are a student and are eligible, ask at your Principal’s or Head Teacher’s office for an application pack. (Applications for this academic year have now closed and the dates for next year are yet to be finalised).
